Reducing radio transmitter
costs and carbon emissions

Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, 10 February 2009 – Nujira, world leaders in efficient RF transmission technology, today announced that Sumitomo Electric Industries (SEI) has successfully developed the first cellular network product based on Nujira’s patented High Accuracy Tracking (HAT™) technology. The new Sumitomo GED21RUP001 Remote Radio Head for WCDMA, HSPA and LTE applications can be seen on the Nujira stand (1E60) at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

By using a Nujira Coolteq™-h module, Sumitomo achieved world-leading efficiency, beyond that of Doherty-based designs. The new radio head dissipates less power as heat, eliminating the need for a fan, and is therefore smaller and lighter, with high levels of reliability and water-resistance. The Sumitomo GED21RUP001 delivers an output of 40W from a unit weighing just 12k and measuring just 324 x 341 x 173mm.

Commenting, Yoshikazu Nishiwaki, General Manager of Broadband Equipment Development Department at SEI commented: “SEI has applied innovative Nujira technology to create a product with significant differentiators to the market. By using Nujira’s HAT™ technology, SEI is offering customers industry leading RF Power Amplifier efficiencies that significantly reduce operating costs and carbon footprint. As a direct consequence, our product is also much smaller and lighter simplifying installation and reducing deployment costs.”

Tim Haynes, CEO of Nujira, added, “We are proud that SEI, a leading infrastructure vendor, has successfully brought to market a system based on a Nujira Coolteq product. The specification of the new SEI product provides the strongest possible testament to the direct and indirect benefits that can be achieved by using Nujira High Accuracy Tracking (HAT™) technology, reducing operating and installation costs and improving carbon footprint.”
