Our Design Centres
We currently have design centres in Cambridge and Bath, England and in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Cambridge, England
With the majority of our employees based in a fully equipped modern building on the Cambourne Business Park, Cambridge is Nujira’s largest design centre and also serves as the Company’s Corporate Headquarters. The group specialises in RF system design, RF sub-system design, product design and IC design focused across the Digital Cellular and TV Broadcast markets.
Cambridge, well known as Silicon Fen, for the large number of hi tech companies that choose to locate in the city and its environs, is an ideal place to settle. The locality can provide high quality housing, local schools that consistently perform well in league tables and the Norfolk coastline within easy reach.
Bath, England
Nujira’s first remote design centre was opened in October 2009 and is based in quiet rural surroundings about 3 miles from the centre of Bath. The multi-disciplinary team was formerly at Powerwave UK and has brought its experience of Remote Radio Head (RRH) development and manufacture to Nujira’s product development and applications team. With a well-equipped lab, the team’s responsibilities include support for Nujira’s Flexible Development System (analogue, RF and digital hardware and FPGA/ DSP firmware), Nujira’s Digital Pre Distortion (DPD) software, and system engineering for Nujira’s IC-based products.
Bath and its near-neighbour, Bristol, sometimes referred to as Silicon Gorge, is home to a large number of companies specialising in IC design, software and high performance electronics, plus the Universities of Bristol and Bath, which have a heritage of innovation in mobile communications.
Edinburgh, Scotland
Nujira’s newest design centre in the heart of Edinburgh in St Andrews Square was opened in August 2011. The design centre houses a multidisciplinary IC development team focused on the Company’s handset solutions. Its initial primary focus is the design of high performance switched mode power supply control and amplifiers, which incorporate all of the components of Nujira’s patented Envelope Tracking technology onto a single chip.
“Scotland not only has a pool of analogue and digital IC design talent, but the Universities there also boast highly regarded Faculties of Electronic Engineering,” said Tim Haynes, Nujira’s CEO. “And the Edinburgh area itself has a high concentration of outstanding IC design expertise which was a significant contributory factor for deciding to locate there. The new Edinburgh design centre allows us to harness this expertise as well as the new engineering talent coming out of the universities to deliver our vision of installing our energy saving technology in hundreds of millions of mobile phone handsets around the world.”
Nujira plans to expand the focus of the site over the next two years to include silicon operations.
